You
could say that Ko Poda got away with it. The flat part of the island
where there are bungalows and a restaurant, was shielded from a direct
impact of the tsunami by the mountainous part of the island. Therefore
even though it was flooded, judging from all the rubble in the forest,
no serious damage was inflicted to the buildings on the island.
The main beach is still partly covered by some branches of trees,
even a destroyed longtail boat, but apart from that, everything looks
fine. In particular the part of the beach close to the landing area
of the longtail boats from Ao Nang has been
cleaned up tidily. Ko Poda
is the best beach in the area, just a little harder to reach than Phra Nang Beach. But for the same reason it is even
less crowded at the moment.
