Krabi after the Tsunami: Nopparat Thara Beach

Special Report

Sea wall torn down by the tsunamiNopparat Thara Beach, close to Ao Nang, is showing more signs of destruction.
Near the national park, the sea wall has been torn down by the tsunami. A lot of soil has been washed away by the waters, exposing the roots of many beachfront trees.

Exposed RootsOn the way towards Ao Nang, near Klong Haeng, you can still see how the tsunami wreaked havoc on the construction site of the new beach front. The hotels and restaurants in this area look undamaged, but judging from the roots and the garbage lying in the nearby forest, a significant amount of water must have reached them and caused some destruction. Everything seems to have been cleaned up in the meantime.

Longtail boat wrecksThe area next to Klong Haeng is the main repair and construction area for the longtail boats. Here you still see a few wrecks which are used as a spare parts pool for new ones. Boatmen from other provinces help out in repairing the boats.
