Krabi after the Tsunami

Special Report: Mainland Krabi - One Month after the Tsunami

The goal of his website is to documentate the impact of the tsunami on December 26th, 2004, in the Indian Ocean, which also hit the islands and the mainland of Thailand's Krabi province. My documentation focuses on the mainland of Krabi and some small nearby island. All photos were taken between January 16th and 31st, 2005. Photos and reports of other areas in Krabi province, in particular Ko Lanta island, can be found at www.yourkrabi.com. For information about Ko Phi Phi check www.hiphiphi.com. For other information check the "Useful Links" section of this website.

I can state that all places I visited guarantee a peaceful holiday in paradise. Sadly, the affected regions don't see many visitors these days, even though they depend heavily on tourism. Many businesses are in trouble, ordinary people getting laid off due to lack of customers.

It is our duty not to turn our back on this region now. Everyone there is trying hard to ensure we spend the time of our life there, which should be rewarded by us. Donating is a good idea for those affected in Khao Lak (Thailand), India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia, but for places like Phuket or Krabi, the best we can do is to keep on travelling. This way we avoid taking the foundation of their lives away from the local people.
